“What If Jesus Doesn’t Have The Wheel and I’m A Horrible Driver?!” with Maurie Speed
This week’s guest was absolutely fascinating to me. We take a big vulnerable dive into religious trauma and what that really means. This subject was so juicy and cathartic to me given I was a kid that grew up in the bible belt as well. I never went to the mega churches as a child, but I had friends who did and it always seemed like a whole other world to me. And as a disclaimer I would like to say I or my guest are not bashing organized religion or making fun of people who find peace in it, what we are doing is diving into a very real trauma that can manifest in people’s lives. In fact as of 2011 Religious Trauma is officially recognized is a clinical mental illness just like PTSD and before 2011 was a term thrown around and known in the mental health community.
Hit play and settle in as we cover topics like why anxiety can make you way too prepared, that the show The Righteous Gemstones is basically just a documentary it’s so accurate and that SNL for Jesus is something I would truly pay to see. Come have a few laughs with me and actor, writer, step cat mom and my good friend Maurie Speed!
![Dyslexia Isn’t A Bad Word with Haylie Montgomery](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60e7544a1365a067be459d04/1641848574199-QHNPM8K04JN2G0LK77CK/S3E1+-+HAYLIE+MONTGOMERY.jpg)
Dyslexia Isn’t A Bad Word with Haylie Montgomery
Happy New Year! This week’s guest could not have been more perfect for our first episode of the new year. This woman is fiercely funny, talented and wickedly smart. She’s such busy lady in fact I had a podcast first and conducted an interview while my guest drove in her car on the way to her show. If that's not the most badass thing you've ever heard, then I give up. We talk all things dyslexia, finding your voice, advocating for yourself and that sometimes ending up in a completely different country than the one you thought you were headed to for vacay isn’t all that bad.
![“Just Want You To Know” I’m Fine with Ashley Calhoun](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60e7544a1365a067be459d04/1638547671146-Q0GR9JOZCJ1PQ61QNWGL/THERAPYWOULDBECHEAPER_ASHLEY_square.jpg)

Everything Is An Emergency with Jason Adam Katzenstein
Today’s episode is extra special for me because my guest is someone I’m a really big fan of! He is a cartoonist who’s work can be found in the New Yorker and he is the author and illustrator of one of my favorite books Everything Is An Emergency. The book is an autobiographical story about his journey into OCD recovery and it’s funny and honest and really relatable. In this episode we cover topics like why our OCD is really just a cute little animal doing it’s best to protect you, how supportive the OCD community is and how humor and creativity can really be the best medicine. Stick around as I chat with cartoonist, author and illustrator Jason Adam Katzenstein!

The Funny Thing About Trauma with Chloe Burns
My guest this week comes on to talk all things trauma. In fact, she’s currently producing her own web series called Trauma Bonded. It’s a dark comedy that centers around the topic of trauma and domestic abuse, but is told through a more humorous lens! Hit play and discover why muttering to yourself in a corn field is only half of trauma processing therapy, why the worse thing a burglar could do is steal your cereal and why all striped shirts need to be burned. Stick around as we chat with actress, writer and producer, Chloe Burns!
![“OCD, PTSD, and Karaoke Make Three!”](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60e7544a1365a067be459d04/1631228492137-OOTOO5B9DWPIPZE2FSMM/TWBC_LAUREN.jpg)
“OCD, PTSD, and Karaoke Make Three!”
I’m gonna be honest with y’all I could barely edit this episode because I could not stop laughing. My guest this week is quite possibly one of the funniest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. This week me and my guest talk about her OCD, PTSD and just anxiety in general…which is exactly the same cocktail of neurosis that I have so buckle in cause we had a lot to share! In this episode we cover why karaoke might suddenly turn into a kidnapping ring, why a $2k ER visit is never the answer for a cut pinky and that your OCD is actually a coked out screenwriter who’s never gonna win an Emmy. Stick around as we chat with the hilarious actress, stand up comedian and my comedy wife for the past 6 years- Lauren Schmuck.
![And Now, An Expert!](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60e7544a1365a067be459d04/1631133271152-C0UWKQA48UZE6YZL5ZZ7/THERAPYWOULDBECHEAPER_KELLY_square_v2+%281%29.jpg)
And Now, An Expert!
Oh hi! Welcome back to the therapy would be cheaper podcast. I’m your host and not a licensed therapist Kenzie Rowland…but hey special treat for you this week, my guest IS a licensed therapist! This episode is something I wish I would have had at 19 years old when I was just starting out on my own mental health journey. I learned so much about not only what it takes to be a therapist, but what therapists wish you knew about the therapy process! In fact this episode was supposed to be a quick bonus episode but we ended up talking for a whole hour cause I was so fascinated! There’s one part in the episode where my guest, Me and our producer Jil have a side conversation that normally would have been cut out, but we ultimately decided to keep it in the episode because we thought it was important for you guys to understand that just because we run this podcast does not mean our own mental health journeys are complete…we are all constantly learning and that’s what beautiful about the healing process. So sit back and get ready to learn a whole heck of a lot with licensed clinical social worker and my good friend, Kelly Holroyd.
